A crack that has run too far, damage in the driver's line of sight, or glass that is simply beyond repair.
A windshield is bonded in with a structural urethane adhesive, and that bond is part of what holds the roof up in a rollover and gives an airbag something solid to deploy against. That is why the adhesive has a safe drive-away time — a minimum cure period before the vehicle should be driven — and why driving off too soon compromises a bond that the rest of the vehicle's safety system is quietly depending on.
It is also why the choice between OEM and aftermarket glass is worth understanding rather than skipping past, particularly on a vehicle where the camera bracket or an acoustic interlayer is built into the glass itself. And on any vehicle with a windshield-mounted camera, replacement is not finished until that camera is recalibrated — that step is part of this job, not an optional extra.
Tell us about the damage and we will match you with a shop that treats recalibration as part of the job.
